In the beginning of the 4th century Christianity is rapidly being spread in the East. Roman Empire is struggling against this phenomenon. Wandering groups of mimes are dispatched to the Eastern cities in order to mock at gospel stories and to perform anti-Christian plays. Ardalion is one of these mimes. During the recurrent performance a divine light is shed over the hero, and he is being converted becoming a Christian. Nevertheless, his playmates crucify him exactly on the stage. The mockery game turns into a tragedy, and he is martyred. Ardalion becomes a Saint for the Catholic and Orthodox churches.
